Leave your mark on Base Village

Steve Benson

Here’s your chance to leave your personal mark on Base Village at Snowmass. The community is being invited to participate in a contest to name the cabriolet lift that will connect the Base Village development with the Snowmass Mall. The winner will be awarded a pair of skis or a snowboard and be the first to ride the lift. The cabriolet will be erected and completed this summer during the first phase of construction and on-mountain improvements. The Village Express six-pack lift will also be operational next winter. “This is an exciting way to get the community involved in the birth of the new village,” said Mike Kaplan, senior vice president of mountain operations for the Aspen Skiing Co., in a news release. “It’s also an opportunity for us to help inform the public on ongoing improvements to Snowmass.”The cabriolet will provide two-minute uphill and downhill rides between the mall and Base Village. Entries can be dropped off at the Snowmass Ticket Pavilion, e-mailed to pr@aspensnowmass.com or mailed to Marketing, P.O. Box 1248, Aspen, CO 81612. The deadline is April 10. The Aspen Times will be holding its own contest to name the cabriolet. Some names already being thrown around the newsroom are “Pat’s Pride,” “The Umbilical Cord,” “The Topless Lift,” and the all-original “People Mover.” Entries can be e-mailed to cathlutz@aspentimes.com.
