Learn from Snowmass

Dear Editor:In order to fulfill the requirements of their office, elected officials must possess intelligence, integrity and courage.Beginning about 10 years ago, the voters in Snowmass Village elected council members who each lacked at least one of these essential characteristics. The council became too cozy with a powerful developer, and within four years, 25 years of effort by previous councils to develop a comprehensive plan and a land use code with growth controls and adequate impact mitigation measures were cast aside. The citizens of Snowmass Village are now suffering the consequences. The citizens of Aspen are indeed fortunate to have the opportunity to elect Mick Ireland as their mayor. I know from my service with Mick on various intergovernmental groups in the ’90s that Mick possesses the necessary intelligence, integrity, and courage to protect Aspen from the fate of Snowmass Village. I urge Aspen voters to elect Mick Ireland as their mayor.Jeff TippettSnowmass Village
