Learn about economic localization

Dear Editor:Recently Brian Weller of Willits, Calif. (WELL – Willits Economic LocaLization Project), spoke to nearly 200 Roaring Fork Valley citizens on how communities can address escalating oil and natural gas prices. World petroleum supplies are stretched thin. Such prices are bound to increase further as the economies of China and India swell. By gradually supplying more and more of our own needs, we can lessen such impacts and strengthen our own communities. Locally produced food, and even fuels, will gain in popularity. For those who may have missed Brian’s presentation, it is now playing on GrassRoots TV.The Community Office for Resource Efficiency would like to thank Carbondale Mayor Michael Hassig, Town Manager Tom Baker, as well as the town of Carbondale Board of Trustees for supporting these recent events. We also appreciate the in-kind support and ongoing partnership with Sustainable Settings, Solar Energy International, KDNK, Dr. Will Evans and many others. To learn more, please join us for an economic localization picnic/potluck at Sopris Park in Carbondale, at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 29. A film titled “The Power of Community – How Cuba Survived Peak Oil,” will be shown at no charge.Gary GoodsonBasalt
