A Dec. 17 Mass will be held for Laura O. Cruz, who died Dec. 2.

Laura O. Cruz, beloved mother of Catalina Cruz, passed away on Dec. 2, 2005, after a five-month battle with cancer.

Laura O. Cruz, beloved mother of Catalina Cruz, passed away on Dec. 2, 2005, after a five-month battle with cancer. Laura was born in Santiago, Chile, and married Hernan Cruz Vial, an attorney-at-law, in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1973.

The couple emigrated to New York City in 1960 where Laura worked for the Chilean consulate and later for Venezuelan airlines. She traveled the world with her daughter, Catalina, and adored history, art and culture. She loved the sunshine and warm weather of Miami where she lived for 25 years after leaving New York. She moved to Aspen to live with her daughter in 1995.

Laura will be most remembered for her contagious laugh, wonderful sense of humor, great stories, incredible memory and ability to give boundless love. She was a most loving and caring mother, and a true friend. She will be missed by many, but her spirit continues to live in all those who knew her and loved her.There will be a memorial Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Aspen at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.
