ASPEN – It’s closing day both at Aspen Mountain and Snowmass today, which can mean only one thing: parties on the mountains.
Sunday’s sendoff action includes Schneetag at Snowmass, challenging teams of four to create a craft, pilot it down the slope at the Spider Sabich race arena and then attempt to float across a 30-by-20-foot pond. Free foot passes on the Burlingame lift will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those who want to watch. The event is from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Also Sunday at Snowmass, there will be music starting at 2 p.m. in the Base Village Plaza, and there’s a “Choose Your Decade” costume contest at 5 p.m.
At the base of Aspen Mountain, Ajax Tavern will feature music from DJ Naka G Sunday, and there will be drink specials.
Other resorts closing today are Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Eldora, Monarch, Silverton and Steamboat.
Sticking it out until April 21, along with Aspen Highlands, is Winter Park. Loveland is scheduled to call it quits May 5, while Arapahoe Basin’s scheduled closing is June 2.
