Lankering Chiropractic celebrates 40 years of serving the community
Dr. Tom Lankering and Lankering Chiropractic in Basalt marked a significant milestone on Nov. 1, celebrating 40 years of service to the community.
Lankering’s journey began in 1984 when he first arrived in Aspen, immediately recognizing it as his home.
“I started with $25 in my pocket,” Lankering recalled. “I had to go to the Bank of Aspen and ask them for money. My first practice was at 605 Main St. in Aspen.”
Since then, Lankering has remained steadfast in his belief in chiropractic and natural health care, dedicating his practice to a holistic approach that addresses physical pain, emotional well-being, and nutritional health.
“I have always been a natural health advocate in the community,” Lankering said. “I have been talking about fluoride for a long time. I have spoken about electromagnetic radiation, nutrition, chiropractic health, and exercise.”
His commitment to this integrative focus has earned him recognition statewide, including being named Colorado Chiropractor of the Year in 2005. At Lankering Chiropractic, services range from advanced chiropractic adjustments to cold-laser therapy and stress relief programs, all designed to alleviate pain and enhance overall health.
“I have always been motivated by people I have had success with,” Lankering said. “I have had miracles happen with some people, and I have had challenges with others. Those challenges have inspired me to learn more and to find out how I can help people.”
One of the clinic’s standout offerings is BrainTap technology, which helps clients manage stress and achieve mental clarity through sessions that balance the nervous system.
“BrainTap is a system that I have been putting together for 40 years,” Lankering said. “Treating neck pain, back pain, headaches, bones that are out of position, and popping things back in have worked, but I always thought something was missing.”
He realized that stress is a major factor contributing to pain.
“When the brain is balanced, the body is balanced,” Lankering said. “The brain is always trying to adapt to internal and external stressors. The brain has a hard time telling the difference between a fake fire alarm and a real fire alarm. Pain can come from an injury, or it can come from financial and emotional stress.”
Lankering’s insights into stress and health are further highlighted in his co-authored best-selling book, “Wake Up: The Happy Brain.”
“In this book, I wrote a chapter called ‘The Heart of Balance,'” Lankering noted. “We have three major highways. A big one is fight or flight, which can affect rest and digestion, leading to issues with the gut/brain pathway.”
He emphasized that if the brain is stuck in fight-or-flight mode, the body cannot recuperate or regenerate.
“A lot of what I do is try to balance that fight or flight,” he added.
Beyond chiropractic care, Lankering advocates for nutrition and lifestyle changes that support long-term health, ensuring that his practice is a resource hub for health information.
Lankering Chiropractic regularly offers free resources and hosts local discussions on wellness to empower individuals in their health journeys.
Lankering Chiropractic is located at 110 Midland Ave. in Basalt.
