Dear Editor:
The recent articles on the poor performance of some Garfield County schools represent a microcosm of what ails our education system nationally. We are educating over 5 million anchor babies and illegal alien minors at a cost of over 50 billion taxpayer dollars annually.
They are the children of people who aren’t supposed to be here.
A valley principal was quoted as saying that the 70 percent of her student body who are English-challenged “have not detracted from the performance of our Anglo students.” If you believe that, you better know it hasn’t helped them any either!
Parents with kids in Glenwood Springs Elementary, who are English proficient, might ask how that $200,000 grant is going to help their child. If they’re not interested in learning Spanish, that is.
