Key questions

Moderator Gov. “Small Is Beautiful” Dick Lamm lobbed softball topics to five of Aspen’s mayors.

He should have fired hardball questions, asking each of the mayors about their experience with the growth of the city’s budgets, bureaucracy, regulations and population. The good Gov. missed a great opportunity to learn that bigger is better in Aspen.

ARE WE HAVING ANY FUN YET?

County officials had the bright idea that limiting jobs in a quality service economy would help to control growth. Now ailing economic times mean 500 fewer jobs in our world-class resort. Growth has gone South and the cheerleaders for controlling jobs are silent.

A NUMB NUTTY IDEA.

A highly placed RFTA official said that discussing the Corridor Investment Study (CIS) mass transit forecasts would numb the public’s mind with numbers. This is nonsense. A look at the page after page of data in the 500-page Corridor Investment Study reveals enough numbers to numb every brain in the valley.

WHERE HAS ALL THE MONEY GONE?

The County Commissioners save money every time the city annexes some of Pitkin’s territory. The city started annexation in 1962 and hasn’t stopped yet. So, what has happened to all the money the county has saved when city funds serviced these annexed areas?

Be Brave Comrades.
