Keep them separated

Dear Editor:

The article on new traffic-signal poles for the intersection of Mill and Main streets should have pointed out that the poles at Main and Galena were custom-designed to reflect some of the design qualities of the historic streetlights on Main Street (“CDOT wants to replace traffic-signal poles at Main and Mill in Aspen,” Jan. 31, The Aspen Times).

At the time, these were intended to represent the prototype for future upgrades at other intersections. They look OK and would offer an alternative to the older poles at Main and Mill, except for the street lighting, which is installed high up on the Main/Galena poles. The high street lights using the historic luminaries look kind of goofy. Probably best to keep the streetlights separate from the traffic-signal poles.
