Keep the hut open

Dear Editor:

The B-Milk Hut is a great asset to the community. It has given hikers a real place to go and get warm and change clothes. The number of hikers up the local mountains are amazing, and Buttermilk most likely leads them all.

I would venture to say that the off-hour use of the B-Milk Hut is higher than the ski area operating hours. I know 30 to 35 people personally who hike up either before the lift opens or after the lifts close at least once, if not two or three times, a week. The hut offers a place to change clothes and get prepared for a trip back down in the dark.

Request that people do not have fires after-hours, or allow only Skico staff to fire up the stove.

I know that the Skico has been great at keeping places open on all mountains for folks to get warm after a hike, and I appreciate it. They don’t have to do it, but it’s a great benefit to the community to do it.

Thanks much, and keep the Hut open to all, especially during off-hours.
