AVON – Avon’s Eagle River whitewater park is finished. The park, which is south of the Riverfront Village Project, has a boat ramp, a terrace for spectators and three features which are known as Baby Bob, Bob Jr. and Bob Sr. It will open in the spring with a whitewater rodeo series, Town Manager Larry Brook said.Baby Bob is for kayakers with basic skills while Bob Jr. is for intermediate and freestyle kayakers. Bob Sr., which is for advanced freestyle kayakers, will allow competitions to be held at the park. The park is a big increase in recreational activities offered in Avon, Town Engineer Shane Pegram said.”The greatest increase in recreational opportunity will come during a time that has been traditionally considered the ‘off-season’ for most ski resort areas,” Pegram said. “This increased opportunity is not only good for the Town of Avon, but for the entire Vail Valley.”Vail Resorts gave the town space for the park, and Eagle County, Beaver Creek Resort Company and East West Partners made financial contributions. The Whitewater park was designed by River Restoration of Glenwood Springs and built by Ted Siepel Construction. For more information about Avon’s Whitewater Park or for the ribbon cutting ceremony, contact Avon’s Engineering Department at 748-4100.
