Kayaker dies on the Arkansas

BUENA VISTA, Colo. ” Authorities say a man died while kayaking on the Arkansas River Sunday, the third fatality on the river in six days.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department says 70-year-old Volker Beer of Tucson, Ariz., fell out of his kayak and was swept down river.
Rescuers spotted the victim face down in the water near Liars’ Lodge and pulled him from the water at River Park. He was pronounced dead at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
An autopsy is planned.
Beer’s death is the fourth on the Arkansas River this rafting season.
Student musicians take the Wheeler stage for Aspen Rocks competition on Saturday
