Katherine Carpenter wants arrest records sealed in Nancy Pfister case

Carbondale resident Katherine Carpenter, once a suspect in the murder of Aspen native Nancy Pfister, filed a court petition on Monday to seal arrest records connected to the case.

“The charges against the Petitioner were dismissed. The Petitioner is innocent,” reads the paperwork filed by Carpenter’s attorney, Greg Greer, of Glenwood Springs.

Carpenter was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and accessory to first-degree murder. She was arrested March 14 and released from the Garfield County Jail after 96 days in custody. Her release came on June 13, when the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office dismissed charges against both Carpenter and Nancy Styler in the death of Pfister, 57, whose body was found inside her Buttermilk home on Feb. 24.

Prosecutors said Nancy Styler’s husband, William Styler, a former anesthesiologist, hit Pfister in the head with a hammer as she slept. District Judge James Boyd sentenced him to 20 years in state prison following his guilty plea on June 13.
