Dear Editor:I would like to emphasize how important it is for all registered voters to get out and vote in next week’s runoff election. We all share an important responsibility and obligation to exercise our vote – a responsibility that we should all deeply cherish and appreciate. In the mayoral race, we have two highly qualified candidates with sincere passion and commitment to our great town. We are lucky for that. No matter who you vote for, please, please, get out and vote next Tuesday (or vote early at City Hall until Friday, June 1).I have contributed to both Tim’s and Mick’s election campaign (and Mick’s election team graciously corrected the inclusion of my name on his endorsement list), believing that each of them presented the best set of qualifications for the job. Although their styles are quite different, they both possess a genuine and authentic concern for the future of our community. They want the best for us all and will give their best in the effort. Regardless of where you stand on these ideas, I again encourage everyone to exercise their voice. Let your preference be known and counted. As I go to the ballot booth on Tuesday, just as always, I will be measuring my choice on the individual qualities, values and character that I believe will best serve our community. Equally important for me, the role of consensus building for the greater good of our community cannot be overlooked, and should be near the top of everyone’s list knowing how richly diverse our great town (and valley) is.Finally, I do agree that the ability to say “no” is important. But equally important is the ability to say, “I will consider that,” and “let’s try this together,” and “that’s a good idea worth exploring further” – very important words for our elected officials. Please vote on Tuesday, June 5. Thanks.Dwayne RomeroAspen
