`Just So Stories’ coming to stage

Aspen Times Staff Report

The Aspen Community School will present its 26th annual spring musical, “Just So Stories,” on March 12 and 13 at the Wheeler Opera House.

The production, involving students and members of the community, is a musical adaptation of eight tales from the book by Rudyard Kipling. The play will reveal how the leopard got his spots, how the elephant got his trunk and other animal tales from Kipling.

Students will perform all of the roles, following three weeks of rehearsal. Production of the musical is also integrated into the school’s curriculum. Parents and other community members pitch in to help produce the show.

“Just So Stories” features a script by Rett Harper, musical direction by Randi Kelly, and lyrics by Polly Whitcomb, Steve Skinner and Kipling. Original music has been composed by area musicians Kelly, Skinner, Ray Hannisian, A.O. Forbes, Tom Paxton, Serena Wood, Trevor Wheetman, Dan Sadowsky and Lisa Dancing-Light.

Tickets for the show are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. They are available at the Wheeler box office. For more information, call 923-4080.
