Just ask the students
As both a father (Anna Thomson) and a grandfather (Courtney Brinkeroff) of former Aspen School District students, I feel I can speak with experience to the wonderful job and communication skills that Tom Farrell has displayed with all of our children over his 12-year tenure in Aspen.
I also was an early member of the Aspen Education Foundation and have served with Tom Farrell on a number of community endeavors, which again gave me the opportunity to observe his behavor.
I feel that the true test of our educational system is not how high our children test, but more importantly how well our children are prepared to continue their education.
Most graduates go on to college and, I think, the facts have proven overwhelmingly how well-adjusted our children are. And most are doing well in college and in their respective career fields.
Few people may be aware of the number of times Tom has stepped in and acted as a surrogate parent. He has helped to save children from potential problems as well as redirected their lives in a positive manner.
This recent line of debate reminds me of a similar time when a very small, but very vocal, group set out to disrupt the direction of the hospital. I believe the community voted overwhelmingly (70 percent) against this vocal group.
If you were to poll the former students under the direction of Tom Farrell, I believe you would get at least a 90 percent approval rating.

Aspen’s dirty downtown alleys are enough of a blight that the city government is taking the initiative to clean them up this week.
