Junior golfer Jack Hughes wins Steamboat tournament

Aspen-area junior golfers continue their torrid tournament pace this summer.

Earlier this week, the junior golfers played in the two-day Haywhacker Championship in Steamboat Springs. One round was staged at the Haymaker Golf Club. The second round was played at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club.

Jack Hughes of Snowmass Village won the championship in the 11-13 division by six strokes. He shot a 77 at Haymaker and a 74 at Rollingstone to collect the first-place plaque.

Aspen’s Jack Pevny shot 86 and 87 to finish sixth in the Steamboat Springs event.

Second place went to Walker Franklin of Broomfield.

Hughes earlier this summer won the Northern Spring CJGA Series tournament in Fort Lupton.

In the boys 14-15 division, Dominic Lanese IV shot 87 and 83, finishing in a tie for 11th.

Spencer Shaw, Charlie Guilander and Miles McConnell finished 29th, 30th and 31st, respectively, in the 14-15 division.
