Jumping with gratitude

Dear Editor:Recently the Basalt Elementary School held the annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Nearly 400 students participated in this year’s event, raising more than $11,500 for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope for Heart teaches participants about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and it provides an opportunity for children to perform community service. Students discover that they can make a difference!I would like to thank the many parent volunteers for their time in helping to put this event together. Not only did these volunteers jump with our students, they prepared certificates, provided and poured Gatorade, passed out cookies, counted money and sorted prizes. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the community for supporting our students in their efforts to raise money for this event. We met our short-term goal of raising over $10,000. Our long-term goal is to help prevent heart disease in our children’s lifetime. Thank you for helping us work toward that goal.Carol KingBasalt Elementary School
