Judy Fitzpatrick Byrnes died Monday at Porter Hospice in Denver.

Judy Fitzpatrick Byrnes died peacefully Monday afternoon, Aug. 22, at Porter Hospice in Denver. She died of a rare brain cancer at the age of 59.

The Fitzpatrick family moved to Aspen in 1958. Judy attended Aspen schools and graduated from Aspen High School. She had many friends in the community.Judy took in foster children and cared for more than 40 children over the years. She adopted six of the children, all of whom became beloved members of the family. Judy gave so much of herself and was a friend to all.

Judy is survived by her husband, Jack, and nine children. She is also survived by her parents, Elva and James Fitzpatrick, and four younger siblings, Michael, Patsy, Teresa and Margaret (Peggy).There will be a memorial Mass for Judy at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Aspen. A buffet luncheon will follow at the Elks Club, where Judy’s friends and family can greet one another.
