Josef Engel

Josef Engel passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Glenwood Springs. He was 79 years young. Joe was born in Palanka, Yugoslavia, on Dec. 4, 1929. As a young man, he emigrated to Southern California, where he married and where is daughter was born. He retired as a successful brewmeister and later made the Roaring Fork Valley his home.

He was highly respected and beloved by his colleagues, his friends and his family. We will greatly miss our friend Joe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gregor.



In celebration of his life, a Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at St. Mary of the Crown in Carbondale. Immediately following, there will be a gathering of friends and family at Beau Jo’s Restaurant (the former Buffalo Valley) in Glenwood Springs.

In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to Saint Benedict’s Monastery, 1012 Monastery Road, Snowmass, CO 81654 or to the American Cancer Society.
