Join Pickens’ plan

Dear Editor:

America has been held hostage by the ups and downs in oil prices for far too long. Last summer, when oil went to $147 per barrel the drive to promote alternative energy sources rose with it.

When oil prices dropped to near $30 per barrel in the wake of the world economic collapse, interest in wind, solar and other alternative sources waned at the same time.

We cannot allow ourselves to continue to be at the whim of oil producing countries in the Middle East, Africa and South America. That’s why April 1-3, I am joining over 4.5 million other Americans and participating in the Pickens Plan Virtual March on Washington. The time for debate in Washington is over. We need an energy plan that ends our dependence on foreign oil.

A major pillar of the Pickens Plan calls for America to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. By producing more of our electricity from renewable sources, that will free up our domestic natural gas supplies to be used as a transportation fuel in heavy trucks and other fleets.

I urge everyone to go to and contact their member of Congress and our two Senators to urge them to sign on to the Pickens Plan and give us an energy bill free of foreign oil.
