Johnson supports employees
October 30, 2010
I am one of the lucky people employed in Pitkin County right now. And, as an employee, I will be voting for Jack Johnson because I know he will represent everyone in this valley – the businesses that extend from Aspen to Redstone, the employed, and also those who are out of work in these tough times.
I am voting for Johnson because he will work hard to make sure that both businesses and their employees thrive. I am specifically voting against Rob Ittner because I can’t believe that he had the audacity to propose a tax subsidy to benefit his Aspen restaurant! This tax break might help a select few business owners in Aspen – but it will do nothing to help their actual employees who live up and down the valley.
So, I ask who will represent the almost 14,000 employees in this valley – you and me? Johnson has my vote on that one. Jack Johnson has experienced the challenges employees face in Pitkin County and has a track record on employee issues like, creating affordable housing units and leading on mass transportation issues and daycare funding. On the opposite side, Rob Ittner says we have a surplus of employee housing, even though well over fifty percent of our workforce commutes to Aspen.
If you are an employee who might want to live and earn a living wage in Pitkin County, and you don’t want your hard work to go toward tax breaks and public subsidies for yet another pricey Aspen business, then you need to get out and vote for Jack Johnson!
Thank you for voting early, or on Nov. 2, the election date.
