John Young will fight big oil

Dear Editor:

We lived in Pitkin County before we moved to Peach Valley (near Silt) 34 years ago. Over the past few years, we have experienced the effects of gas well drilling in our area of western Colorado – the brown cloud caused by the trucks rumbling down our rural roads, obscuring the “I can see forever” horizon – the light pollution caused by the mini-Eiffel Towers littering the landscape, competing with the night sky – the noise from the rigs – and the odor of gas spill-off.

Young is passionate about preserving Pitkin County’s most valuable resources – tourism and the natural environment, which rival those of Yellowstone or Yosemite. Tourism and recreation are our main revenue sources here and must not be supplanted by gas and oil exploration and drilling, which would undermine the fragile ecosystem and the quality of life that we so cherish.

We have known John for more than 30 years. We know he will work diligently to protect Pitkin County from what we have seen, heard and smelled in Garfield County less than 50 miles downvalley from Aspen. Time is still on your side. We urge you to vote John Young for Pitkin County commissioner.
