John Popper Project to perform for Aspen World Cup

ASPEN – Fireworks and a free concert by the John Popper Project will mark opening weekend of the ski season in Aspen, which happens to coincide with two days of women’s World Cup skiing on Aspen Mountain.

The John Popper Project, featuring DJ Logic, is the opening concert of the winter’s Bud Light Hi-Fi series. The outdoor show takes place Saturday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at the base of the mountain, followed by fireworks.

The ski slopes of Aspen Mountain and Snowmass open on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. The Aspen Winternational brings women’s giant slalom racing on Saturday, Nov. 28 and a slalom event on Sunday, Nov. 29. The U.S. stop for women’s World Cup comes a little more than two months shy of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Also part of the Saturday events will be an awards ceremony and presentation of the Bingham Cup to the GS winner before the concert, at 6:30 p.m. in Gondola Plaza.

Popper’s jam band, Blues Traveler, played a free show in conjunction with Aspen World Cup racing in December 2007. His side, band, John Popper Project, also makes regular appearances in Aspen. The latter, formed in 2006 and featuring turntablist DJ Logic, explores a fusion of hip-hop and funk.
