John Denver Shoulder makes everyone happy

Dear Editor:

While I suspect that John Denver would be disappointed at best (and maybe even a bit embarrassed) by the bickering that renaming Mount Sopris has engendered, perhaps another approach to honoring him would be in order.

Rather than pit the “Sopris” faction against the “Denver” faction (is one really more worthy than the other?), how about taking a page from John’s own book and rename a ridge of Sunshine Peak just east of Aspen as the John Denver Shoulder?

That way we could assure that sunshine is always shining on John’s shoulder while still being able to appreciate it from most anywhere in town. It’s also unlikely that the sun will object to having John along for the ride.
