John passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness. He was born in Newark, N.J. and raised in Richmond, Va.

John received an undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and a law degree from New York University.

After a career in the financial services industry in New York City, John moved with his wife, Barbara, to Woody Creek. He loved his home in the West and became committed to and involved in the Roaring Fork Valley’s nonprofit sector.

John lent his expertise and time to several organizations in the areas of education, social services and the arts. He served on the boards of the Executive Service Corps, Aspen Music Festival and School and Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters Ellen (Adam Lechner) Gold and Carolyn Miggins, and granddaughter Natalie.

His warmth, kindness and humor were a gift to all who knew him.

A memorial service in Aspen will be announced at a later date.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Aspen Community Foundation, Aspen Music Festival and School, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet or Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
