John A. Petzold

John A. Petzold, a resident of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and longtime and frequent visitor to Aspen, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2009, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Many of John’s friends knew him as “Yo,” a nickname that stayed with him for many years.

Born in Los Angeles in 1942, he later lived in San Marcos, Calif., and graduated from San Diego State University in 1966 with a degree in engineering. He retired in 2005 after a career of more than 37 years as an engineer with Northrop-Grumman.

John’s favorite activities included sailing, skiing, long-distance biking, running and travel in the United States and many foreign countries.

John is survived by his sister, Lois Petzold Hindin, of Pasadena, Calif., and dear friend Joyce Carp of Snowmass.

Funeral services were held at Journey of Faith Church in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena, Calif.
