Jobs Americans used to do

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:How old is Ms. Clary that she can’t recall a time in our history when Americans did all of those so-called jobs that no Americans want to do? The difference is that the pay was a living wage, not brought down by the unceasing influx of desperate illegal workers. I remember a time when my best friend cleaned motel rooms for extra money. My first job while attending college was picking grapes. Our home was built 20 years ago by American roofers, drywallers, carpenters and landscapers. What has changed is the daily increase in illegal immigrants and the number of powerful unions, corporations, politicians, Hispanic advocacy groups and immigration lawyers who support them to the detriment of America. As for the professor, Mr. Fetzer, who sits in his ivory tower denying the obvious, his points are completely without substance. He states that without illegals to do the work, multinational corporations would outsource jobs. I would just love to see them outsource waitresses, farm labor, landscaping, construction, cleaning or any of the other service jobs that Americans without college degrees used to do. Maybe when illegal aliens begin to take professorial positions will he see the light. Finally, it sounds as if Sheriff Braudis is merely kowtowing to the powers that be in Aspen. If he cannot see clear to enforce our nation’s laws, then he should step aside for someone who can.Rhonda RosetoWestminster, Colo.
