Jim Edward Garcia, age 66, of Basalt, formerly of San Francisco, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, March 2, surrounded by his family, after a short but fierce battle with cancer.

Jim was an avid tennis player and taught tennis at clubs in Aspen and Basalt for more than 30 years. He was an accomplished guitar player and passionate about music from rock ‘n’ roll to Hawaiian slack key.

Jim was the beloved husband of Olwen, loving father of Travis, Josh, Jim and Lenny, devoted grandpa of Kazuo, Rachel, Antonio and Gino, and cherished uncle and father-in-law. Jim is survived by his mother, Norma Stagner Garcia, brothers Tony and Phil, and sister Jeanne. He was preceded in death by his father, Antonio S. Garcia and brother Fred. Jim was much loved and will be very greatly missed by all his family and friends.



A memorial will be held when the weather is warmer ” stay tuned.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Jim may be made at Alpine Bank, for the benefit of Roaring Fork Hospice and the Basalt School Band.
