Jellinek’s debts up in the air

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

BASALT ” A local aircraft company filed a complaint in Pitkin County Court alleging Jelco Management LLC of Basalt and John J. Jellinek owe more than $10,000 in unpaid leasing fees for an airplane.

The complaint states Aspen Flight Holding Co. is the owner of a Cessna Conquest II, and entered into a deal to lease the plane to Jelco and Jellinek on Jan. 1, 2008. The rate was established at $575 per hour.

“Despite repeated demands and requests for payments, as well as assurances given personally by Jellinek, Jelco has failed and refused to pay all of the lease fees for 2008,” the complaint alleged.

As a result, Jelco and Jellinek owe $10,374.96 to the Aspen Flight Holding Co.

The complaint further alleges Jelco is the alter ego of Jellinek, and the “corporate veil may be pierced because not doing so would defeat public convenience, justify wrong, or protect fraud.”

The complaint, which was filed Jan. 13, seeks damages to be established at trial.

Jellinek is a former Aspen Valley Hospital District Board member. He resigned his post last year amid allegations of financial impropriety related to his board membership.

Jellinek denied the allegations.
