Jeannie Ritter to speak in Aspen

ASPEN ” Colorado’s first lady and the state senator representing Aspen will be in Aspen on Thursday for a lecture focusing on mental health issues.

The talk will feature two prominent leaders in the mental health field, Drs. Scott Rauch and Kenneth Duckworth, who will lecture on the topic of mental illness in the 21st century and conduct a panel discussion on the subject.

First Lady Jeannie Ritter and state Sen. Gail Schwartz (D-Snowmass Village) are listed as special guests at the event, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Given Institute, 100 E. Francis St.

The two-part lecture will begin with Rauch speaking on the prevalence of mental illness and various treatment-related issues, followed by Duckworth on the topic of living with mental illness in one’s life.

Rauch leads the psychiatric institution at Harvard Medical School, while Duckworth is medical director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness and also is a Harvard professor.

The event, part of the Aspen Given Foundation’s Health Education Series and sponsored by the Dreman Family Foundation of Aspen, is free and open to the public.
