Jean (Holmens) Foote

Contributed report

A true heart of compassion, longtime Aspenite Jean (Holmens) Foote, died Saturday, March 1. Jean lived in Aspen for more than 20 years.

Jean was famous for owning Trooper and Catie, two of the most big, beautiful, red and black malamute huskies to bound along the hiking trails and swim the high-mountain lakes near Aspen.

Jean designed clothes and did fantastic beadwork. She opened many different circles of friends to each other in Colorado, New Mexico and Australia. She spent the last years of her life running a bird refuge in Australia. Jean loved nature and would often inspire those of us who knew her to get outside ourselves and hike, camp and be immersed in nature.

A memorial service was held earlier this month in Australia.
