Jean Bacon Smith

Jean Bacon Smith, died at the age of 88, on June 7th at the Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Born July 25, 1923 in Erie, Penn., she was a graduate of Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham College). After working in Pennsylvania as an accountant for nearly 20 years, Jean moved to Aspen in the early 1960s. There she met and fell in love with Knut Smith, a manager of the Hotel Jerome and one of the first ski instructors on Aspen Mountain. Jean and Knut raised their family in Aspen and both their daughter Ingrid and son Eric graduated from Aspen High School. Later in life, Jean served for many years as an Aspen Valley Hospital Blue Lady.

Jean is survived by her children, Eric and Ingrid; sisters Nancy Andrews and Carroll Klahr; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Jean’s request, there will be no public memorial service, but the family suggests that gifts in Jean’s memory be sent to: Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.
