Jazzless Fest

Dear Editor:

We hear and read of Aspen/Snowmass Jazz weekend, Aspen Jazz festival and the Music Festival Jazz series and Summer Jazz, but, where has it gone?

We once had Wynton Marsalis, Count Basie, Bela Fleck (Jazz and other venues), and, many others, but now, mostly we have rock bands at the so-called Jazz venues. Jim Horowitz is a very knowledgeable musician and aficionado, but, for some reason, Aspen, as many other cities, can’t seem to bring in the “real” jazz bands and groups.

There are many such trios, quartets and bands available, so, how about getting them back to Aspen for the jazz lovers of the area. Can’t remember the last of these type of groups at the Wheeler, or Belly Up.
