Jazzin’ it up
Jazz Aspen Snowmass presented an all-star line-up at the June Festival sponsored by Calamos Investments. The event weekend from June 22 to 25 featured an eclectic blend of musicians, which understandably drew a diverse group of concertgoers. Audiences were treated to live music on stages throughout town and at Rio Grande Park.
Originally inspired by the Jazz festival in the Southwestern France city of Marciac, JAS’s June Festival has taken a course of its own in its sixteen-year-history. Presenting performers such as Trey Anastasio and Jamie Cullum, the June Festival has welcomed acts beyond the realms of Jazz.
Rene Haynes from Denver Jazz radio station KUVO spent the weekend in Aspen expressly for the festival. “We’re the #1 Jazz radio station in the country so we just had to be here,” he said. KUVO promoted the festival, providing media spots throughout the Denver region in the weeks leading up to the event.
Next event on the JAS calendar is the upcoming CrescentCitySwing presented by the Ritz Carlton Club on Sat., July 22, at the base of Aspen Highlands. Spotlighting the sounds of New Orleans, musicians include Allen Toussaint, The Soul Rebels and the JAS Academy Student Bands.
