Former Aspen resident James Anthony Knecht, 36, died at his home in Clovis, Calif. on May 31, following a lengthy and courageous battle with melanoma.

Knecht, the son of Dick and Rosemary Knecht of Aspen, was born June 11, 1962. He grew up in Rapid City, S.D. and graduated from Stevens High School in 1980. He lived and worked in Aspen for a number of years, and had lived in Fresno, Calif. for the past 13 years, where he was a construction superintendent for Catania Construction Co.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his parents; grandmother Helen Knecht of Rapid City; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held today at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fresno. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Agnes Hospice and the American Cancer Society are welcome. They can be sent in care of Marcia Knecht, 528 N. Armstrong Ave., Clovis, CA 93611.
