Ittner right choice for county

Dear Editor:

Pitkin County voters have an unprecedented opportunity to elect a tremendous candidate for county commission, small business and affordable housing owner Rob Ittner. Rob has made the Aspen dream work, meeting a payroll every week, employing dozens of locals through the worst recession in 70 years, and, as owner of Rustique Restaurant, providing a great service to locals and visitors alike.

I was amused recently when a local columnist criticized Rob for being too busy with his business to be an effective commissioner. Using that logic only the unemployable should run for public office. My rule of thumb is that the more important the job, the busier the person you want for it, because busy people are productive and effective, and are far more likely to earn and retain the confidence of those they serve.

Since I have known Rob he has always demonstrated a keen interest in the community and the ability to evaluate issues objectively and in the context of what is best for everyone. He understands that success for his business requires that the community be successful, economically, environmentally, socially, and governmentally.

Rob will bring an intellectual range to the BOCC that will help its deliberations and decision-making on all fronts, and raise their already high standards for public process and thoughtful discourse. A vote for Rob is an investment in the future of Pitkin County.
