It’s `Irrelativity – Out Loud!’

Aspen Times Staff Report

The writings of Aspenite Barry Smith will be featured on tonight’s presentation of Aspen Stage on the Air. The hour-long, locally produced program can be heard every Monday at 7 p.m. on KAJX-Aspen Public Radio.

Smith is a columnist for The Aspen Times, writing the twice-weekly column, “Irrelativity.” Tonight’s program, a series of dramatized readings of five of his columns, is called “Irrelativity – Out Loud!: The Wit and Wisdom of Barry Smith.”

Included in the presentation will be “Interview with Titanic Survivors”; “Cop Talk” – “which could be called `Everything You Always Wanted to Say to a Cop, But Were Afraid To’ ” – “A Reenactment of My Grandmother Telling Me What the Blues Were All About”; and “Name Droppers Theatre” – “a satirical talk show that’s not quite as satirical as one would like,” said Smith.

The program will feature Smith in several of the sketches, and some 10 other actors. The program is directed by Al Lyons.

Smith dropped out of the same college, Southern California’s Chaffey Community College, as Frank Zappa.

KAJX can be heard at: 91.5 and 91.1 FM in Aspen, 90.9 FM in Snowmass Village, 89.1 FM in Basalt and El Jebel, 90.9 FM in Redstone and Thomasville, 89.1 FM in Carbondale and 88.9 FM in Glenwood Springs.
