It’s free, it’s nordic at Aspen extravaganza
Aspen, CO, Colorado
ASPEN – If you’re interested in learning to cross-country ski, brush up on your technique or try the latest in nordic gear, make tracks to the Aspen Cross Country Center on Sunday.
The center, located at the city golf course on Highway 82, will host its annual Cross-Country Ski Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Everything is free during the event, including lessons, ski waxing, food and a raffle.
The event is an opportunity to introduce new skiers to the sport and the trails, and to celebrate 27 years of free cross-country skiing in the Aspen-Snowmass system (it boasts more than 60 miles of groomed trails).
Equipment demos and rentals will be available – both skate and classic equipment (boots, skis, poles and bindings) – from major vendors including Fischer, Alpina, Salomon, Swix and Toko. Rental demos are available from the Aspen Cross Country Center. A credit card will be necessary for all rentals and demos.
One-hour lessons are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with instructors from the Aspen and Snowmass cross-country centers and Ashcroft Ski Touring. Each session will include lessons for beginner and intermediate levels in both skating and classic technique.
Red Mountain Grill, Cafe Ink, Louis Swiss Pastry and Paradise Bakery will provide food and drink. Free ski waxing for track skis will be offered. The day wraps up with a raffle at 2 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. Children and families are encouraged to participate.
The Aspen Cross Country Center is owned and operated by the Ute Mountaineer. Call 970-925-2145 for more information.
