It’s about doing the job

Dear Editor:I just want to write and tell Sandra Miller (Aspen Times, May 19) that if non-English speakers were to be fired from their jobs, this valley and not only this valley, but this country we live in, would go downhill faster than she can imagine. First of all, non-English speakers or “Mexicans” like she calls us, doesn’t necessarily apply, because there are a lot of people in the United States who don’t speak English and are not Mexican. I guess that’s the only thing that her ignorant eyes let her see, though. However, I was saying that the reason that this country would go downhill is because non-English speakers are the people doing the jobs that she and her family most likely don’t want to do. Last I heard, in order to work in a kitchen, construction or whatever job she was talking about, it depends on how good you are at the job, not how well you can speak with people like her.
