Is this freedom?

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:

Bush is set to meet world leaders on June 8-10 for the G-8 summit.

The meeting will take place on Sea Island near Georgia. Thousands of military soldiers, including foreign troops, will be on the coastline (supposedly there for drills).

Six counties and major cities in Georgia have declared a pre-emptive state of emergency. Where marshal law can be imposed. Gov. Perdue signed an order declaring a state of emergency citing “potential danger from unlawful assemblages, threats of violence and otherwise.”

The Brunswick City Council amended its laws last week to give police authority to terminate protests if a “state of emergency or disaster is lawfully declared.”

It’s very rare for governors to pre-emptively declare states of emergency, normally reserved for disasters such as hurricanes or tornadoes. Mayor Brad Brown said he didn’t know the governor had already declared a state of emergency until after the city adopted the legal change.

The policies of marshal law used here are the same ones used in Seattle a couple of years ago where the WTO leaders met. Where CIA provocateurs dressed in black hoods and masks (the anarchists) disrupted the peaceful protesters and destroyed cars and windows. The local police were ordered not to arrest any of these secret government trouble makers but brought their wrath, of pepper spray, clubs and arrest, for the peaceful ones.

Why do the leaders of the world hide on an island protected by armed soldiers and implementing marshal law? What are they so afraid of? These government actions spit on the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and further destroy our trust in government.

Welcome to the new free world Tienanmen Square.
