Ireland leads Aspen mayoral race

ASPEN ” Incumbent Mick Ireland was leading the Aspen mayoral race with only absentee and mail-in ballots left to count Tuesday, and it appeared Question 1 regarding the Aspen Art Museum would fail.

With four precincts counted, Ireland led the mayoral race with 635 votes, followed by challenger Marilyn Marks with 471, LJ Erpamer with 287 and Andrew Kole with 82. Unclear was whether any candidate would finish with 50 percent of the vote plus one ” enough to avoid a runoff.

The art museum ballot question, with four precincts counted, was failing 867 to 549. The question asked if the city should be authorized to sell the former Aspen Youth Center building and adjacent properties to the art museum for construction of a new facility.

Leading the City Council race were Torre, Derek Johnson, Jack Jackson and Adam Frisch.
