Interviews set for Eagle County commissioner

Staff report

Eagle County Democrats are preparing to interview six candidates who applied for a vacant county commissioner seat.

The applicants are Kathy Chandler-Henry, Yuri Kostick, Donald “Jerry” McMahan, Adam Palmer, Rohn Robbins and Paul Witt. They applied for the District 2 seat currently held by Jon Stavney, who is resigning to become the Eagle town manager. The Democrats get to select his replacement because he ran as a Democrat in the November election.

District 2 doesn’t include the Basalt and El Jebel areas, but the commissioners represent all Eagle County residents.

The Eagle County Democratic Party Vacancy Committee will review application packets and develop questions for interviews on May 29. The first interviews will be held in Eagle on June 5, and finalists may be selected. Additional interviews will be held June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Basalt Middle School auditorium. A final decision will be made either that evening or on June 19 in Eagle.

The interviews are open for observation by the public. Public input regarding suggested qualities and skills of the commissioner, or letters of reference about particular candidates, may be emailed directly to vacancy@ eagledems.org or sent to the Eagle County Democratic Vacancy Committee, P.O. Box 4562, Eagle, CO 81631.
