Interstate 70 and exit 116 will see detours this week

Staff report
Glenwood Springs Post Independent

The Glenwood Springs Grand Avenue Bridge project will require several upcoming nighttime detours, in preparation for the bridge’s Aug. 14 closing.

The Colorado Department of Transportation issued a statement Saturday announcing a westbound I-70 night detour beginning 8 p.m. Monday and running through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic will detour through Sixth Street to the exit 116 interchange. Both directions of I-70 traffic will detour from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Tuesday to Friday. Eastbound traffic leaving the interstate for Glenwood Spring and Colorado 82 to Aspen should exit at 114; westbound traffic will exit I-70 at a break-in barrier prior to exit 116. The Grand Avenue Bridge will be closed during these detours.

The westbound exit 116 off ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. Tuesday until early morning Thursday. Westbound drivers who want to access east Glenwood will exit at 114 and turn around at the interchange.

Likewise, the exit 116 eastbound on-ramp will be closed 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. To access I-70 east, drivers should take I-70 westbound to exit 114 and turn around at the interchange.

Street parking on Sixth Street also will be affected. Parking from Hotel Colorado to Yampah Vapor Caves will be closed from Monday morning to Friday morning.
