Internet name theft

About six months ago I went online to find an address for some Snowmass Village town office, and found myself inundated by dozens of sites related to the nonexistent “Base Village” that plans to steal the name “Snowmass Village.”

Fortunately I found the information through another route, but if I were an innocent tourist looking for a place to stay, I would not have found access to any privately owned business at Snowmass. In the words of Ross Perot, the “massive sucking sound” is all the online business being diverted from the private inn and condo owners to Ski Company-owned facilities.

In a recent issue of The Aspen Times, you implied that nobody in Snowmass was putting up any objection to this larceny. It’s time, folks!

The post office lists Snowmass Village as a town with a zip code, not a corporation with an identity crisis. Wake up, residents and business owners – You’re about to be robbed!
