Institute can’t fool me

Dear Editor:

I see The Aspen Institute Ideas Festival has come up with a well-balanced slate of war criminals, economy wreckers, cowardly jurists, Constitution destroyers and human rights violators. Probably have some thieving bankers paying for the monkey show as well.

The Great Minds at the Institute must have figured out that the very people whose lax morals and defective ratiocinative abilities did so much to create the problems are the ones to solve the world’s problems. Unless they can come up with solutions which will work in spite of a corrupt government, they’re just whistling past the grave yard.

Lincoln just didn’t get it. You don’t have to fool all the people, all the time. You just have to fool a majority all the time. That’s a piece of cake, especially when you own the mass media. Everyone knows the voters are so dumb, they will go on voting for Republican and Democratic two-party system hacks, knowing perfectly well they will go straight to Washington and sell out the public interest to the highest bidder and help the bankers loot the Treasury.

The only goal of the Institute is to maintain an economic system which concentrates the wealth in a few hands, and consigns everyone else to a life of debt peonage. Eventually the debt burden becomes so large, even the interest can no longer be paid. Unfortunately, under this glorious economic system, the only way to eliminate the debt is to eliminate the debtors. By the end of the second world war most of the debt built up in the preceding bubble had been wiped out. Under present trends, that’s where you are heading again.
