Colorado Homes & Lifestyles named Design Workshop the Editors Choice for The Best Landscape Designer in Colorado. The honor comes on the heels of the American Society of Landscape Architects selection of Design Workshop as the 2008 ASLA Landscape Architecture Firm of the Year, the highest award the society presents each year. Founded in 1969, Design Workshop is an international landscape architecture, land planning, urban design and strategic services firm with seven offices in the United States, including Aspen.The firm has been recognized with more than 150 awards for their work in new communities, urban centers, resorts, public parks, golf courses and residences. They refer to their approach as DW Legacy Design and examples in Colorado include Riverfront Park, Denver; Glacier Club Golf Course, Durango; redevelopment of the former Gates Factory, Denver; Orchard Town Center, Westminster; Avon Comprehensive Plan, Avon; Little Nell Hotel, Aspen; Fitzsimons Bioscience Park, Aurora; Breckenridge Wayfinding and Signage, Breckenridge; Lowry Redevelopment, Denver; and numerous private residences throughout Colorado.
The U.S. Bancorp Foundation will award nearly $24,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations in Colorados Western Slope for the first half of 2008. The U.S. Bancorp Foundation will provide grants to the following community organizations in the Western Slope: Challenge Aspen Climbing Tree Childrens Museum (Montrose) Grand Junction Musical Arts Association Habitat for Humanity of Glenwood Springs Mesa Youth Services – Partners Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic Riverside Education Center Western Colorado Council Boy Scouts of America United Way of Mesa County

Pitkin County and Basalt have been subsidizing the public drop-off recycling center in Basalt since 2015. Pitkin County informed Basalt it won’t contribute any longer. Basalt says it can’t provide the entire subsidy required by private company Waste Management. The future of the popular facility is in doubt.
