Inmate commits suicide in Garco jail

GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” A Parachute man hanged himself Monday in the Garfield County jail in Glenwood Springs, according to authorities.

Deputies found Timothy Schilz Jr., 24, dead in his cell during an inmate security check at about 11:30 p.m. Monday. The death was apparently a suicide.

Schilz was not under any suicide or behavioral watch. He was awaiting trial on two charges of contempt of court ” one related to providing false information in registering as a sex offender and one regarding check fraud. He was also being held for failure to register as a sex offender, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.



An official with the sheriff’s office is investigating the death.
