Independence Pass to close Friday
The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Monday it plans to close Independence Pass on Friday.
The season closure could come earlier, however, if the forecast for a midweek snowstorm comes to fruition.
The National Weather Service is predicting a possibility of snow showers late tonight, Wednesday and Thursday in the Aspen area.
The pass will remain closed for the winter until its scheduled reopening near Memorial Day weekend.
In the meantime, motorists can take Highway 82 to Aspen via Interstate 70 in Glenwood Springs.
