Independence Pass closes Wednesday

ASPEN ” Independence Pass between Aspen and Twin Lakes will close for the season on Wednesday, according to state highway officials.
Highway 82 crosses the pass, east of Aspen, at more than 12,000 feet above sea level. It will be gated at 2 p.m.
It’s the third high-altitude route in Colorado to be buttoned up for the season. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park closed two weeks ago. The upper part of the Mount Evans highway closed a month ago.
Independence Pass reopens shortly before Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
